Northern Architecture

The traditional houses of the North are designed in a simplified shape, with a simple and modest structure. Traditional northern architecture is mostly ground-floor houses, made of cork, straw, and bamboo leaves. The layout of the space includes the gate, the garden, the main house and the annex, the kitchen, the toilet area, and finally the barn.

The traditional house of the North is made from a solid frame from natural wood. This frame is made up of many different structural systems such as column system, beam system, line system, stacking system, roof structure system,...

Countless different components with different shapes, sizes, and names are all scientifically arranged and tightly tied together to create a solid frame. The arrangement of the components of the house is systematic, carefully calculated, and scientific. There is not a single element in the house that is considered redundant, each even the smallest has its own functions and roles when blending into the whole.

The roof has a large slope to drain rainwater and avoid moisture leakage, creating a sunny current. In addition, they also use climbing plants around the house such as melon, and cucurbit ... to form natural sunshades.

EARTHEN WALL COTTAGE

The earthen wall cottages are houses built of earth according to long-standing techniques in ethnic villages. The materials of soil and gravel used to build the wall are available materials, but when using it to build a house, the house is cool in the summer and extremely warm in the winter. Above all, what makes the pristine and poetic beauty of the Hmong's houses is the peach and plum trees planted right next to it, sometimes in front of the door, sometimes on the porch. When spring comes, the gray color of the stone fence and the black-brown color of the earth wall suddenly stand out with the pink peach blossom and the white color of apricot and plum flowers. All of them seem to blend to create a unique picture of nature among the rocky plateau, making anyone passing by must stop by to take a look.
